A proper day in the water.
Three islands, and you choose one day, two, or all three: the Bay of Islands, the Cavalli Islands, and the Poor Knights. Guided, with our instructors alongside you the whole time.
Freedive Aotearoa is New Zealand's SSI freediving instructor training centre, founded by Sacha Williamson, the country's first female freedive instructor trainer.
How a day runs
Breathwork and a stretch to start. A site briefing and safety plan. Then into the water, working at whatever depth suits you, with someone watching every dive. We eat together and talk about what we saw.
Where
Bay of Islands — over 140 islands, warm subtropical water, and Deep Water Cove along Cape Brett.
Cavalli Islands — volcanic underwater landscape, and the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior.
Poor Knights Islands — a marine reserve Jacques Cousteau rated among the best dive sites in the world. Walls, arches and caves.
Who it's for
Certified freedivers, and people who aren't certified yet — we pitch the day to where you're at. You need to be a comfortable swimmer and in good general health.
What's included
Boat or shore access depending on the site and the day, all specialist freediving gear, guiding and in-water safety, and food.
What to bring
Togs, a towel, warm layers for the boat, water, and a camera if you have one.
What it costs
One day $480. Three days $1,200.

1. Pay your $100 deposit at freedive.co.nz. It is non-refundable, and it is your SSI online learning — yours to keep for life, and you can start today. Pick your dates with us whenever you're ready. It counts toward your price.
2. Request a date here. Tell us the dates that suit and we'll confirm as soon as we can.
Weather calls the shots. If conditions aren't safe we'll move you to another day.
