Kai Iwi Freedive course

Kai Iwi Lakes.

Freshwater dune lakes on the Northland west coast, and some of the best training water in the country. No swell, no current, and visibility that makes learning a lot easier than it is in the ocean.

Freedive Aotearoa is New Zealand's SSI freediving instructor training centre, founded by Sacha Williamson, the country's first female freedive instructor trainer.

Your options

Freedive Course at Kai Iwi — $599
The full course, run at the lakes. SSI certification, taught in calm, clear water.

Open water day only — $250
A guided day at the lakes for people who are already certified and want water time with supervision.

Returning student, open water day — $180
Same day, discounted, for anyone who has already trained with us.

Who it's for
Minimum age 12. Comfortable swimming ability. No previous freediving experience needed for the full course. Good general health — if you're unsure about anything medical, talk to us before you book.

What's included
All specialist freediving gear, in-water instruction and safety, and SSI certification and materials on the full course.

What to bring
Togs, a towel, warm layers, water and something to eat. It's a day out, so come prepared.

Getting there
Kai Iwi Lakes is about two hours from Whangārei and a fair drive from most places. We'll send you directions and a meeting time when your date is confirmed.

1. Pay your $100 deposit at freedive.co.nz. It is non-refundable, and it is your SSI online learning — yours to keep for life, and you can start today. Pick your dates with us whenever you're ready. It counts toward your course price.
