One day. One breath at a time.

If you've wondered what freediving is actually like but don't want to commit to a full course, this is the day for you. No experience needed, and no previous breath-hold training.

Freedive Aotearoa is New Zealand's SSI freediving instructor training centre, founded by Sacha Williamson, the country's first female freedive instructor trainer.

How the day runs
We start on land with how breath-hold actually works, and the safety side — buddy systems, what to watch for, how to look after each other. Then confined water to practise, then into the ocean. You'll be surprised how quickly it clicks.

Where
Along our coast, or out to the islands on a charter, depending on the day and the conditions.

Who it's for
Beginners. You need to be a comfortable swimmer and in good general health. If you're unsure about anything medical, talk to us before you book.

What's included
All specialist freediving gear, your instructor in the water with you, and a small group so you actually get looked after.

What to bring
Togs, a towel, water and something to eat.

Want the certification?
Add the SSI certification upgrade for $100 and you'll walk away with a recognised qualification rather than just a very good day.
